Transportation Fringe Benefit Program
DEP employees can save hundreds of dollars each year in taxes if they commute to work by bus, train or eligible vanpools through the state’s Transportation Fringe Benefit Program. Under the 2008 program, you may set aside, through payroll deduction, up to $115 per month tax-free from your salary to pay for your bus, train or vanpool fare. Parking expenses up to $220 per month are also eligible.
State employees are eligible for this program if they are full-time or permanent part-time working at least 20 hours a week and commuting to and from work using public transportation or incurring parking expenses.
