The Guaranteed Ride Program - A Service You Can Count On
Easy Street® driver Jan Czeczotka thinks the biggest reason people don’t use commuter transportation to get to work is their fear of being stranded at the office if they become ill at work, have a family emergency or have unexpected overtime.
Peter Sandgren agrees. He says most people believe they must have their car available at all times. However, people commuting by Easy Street® vanpool and Connecticut’s Commuter Express bus service CAN get transportation by simply calling for an emergency ride. The Guaranteed Ride program is provided by Connecticut DOT Commuter Services at no cost to the van or express bus commuter. Through this free benefit program, an emergency ride is available twice during the program year.
Conversations with people who recently used the Guaranteed Ride benefit revealed emergencies come up a lot less often then people may imagine. Jan Czeczotka has been commuting by van for over a dozen years and he figures he has had to call for a ride four or five times. In the 10 years Rebecca Niman has commuted to Hartford from Waterbury, she’s needed an emergency ride home three times. Each time, Rebecca has always found the taxi driver to be helpful and courteous.
The Guaranteed Ride is a phone call away. The representative will ask for your pick up point and your destination, then quickly verify your eligibility and call the taxi company. The taxi will arrive in minutes to pick you up and take you to wherever you need to be.

This quick, reliable ride allows you to sit back and let someone else deal with the traffic while you are feeling ill or are worried about a sick child or family member. For instance, one person who was grateful for the emergency ride told us he had injured his back at work and would have found driving home on his own more painful.
